Randy on Gov. McDonnell’s “Super NoVa” Study

October 4th, 2011

We were very excited to hear the news this morning about Gov. McDonnell’s “Super NoVa” transit study to ease the congestion in Northern Virginia. Randy himself was motivated by the news this morning, penning the following statement in an email to his staff:

While road improvements to our congested roadways are critically needed in our region, I applaud Governor McDonnell’s leadership to launch the “Super NoVa” transit study that will include Frederick, Clarke, and Loudoun Counties and establish a baseline of current and projected commuter traffic patterns. I anticipate that this Study will provide important findings that can be used to establish a new formula for capital transportation improvements that will allow for our worst roadways to be improved while providing a greater focus on realistic transit opportunities.

As the study proceeds, more information will be available on the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transit’s web site

We’d like to know what you think about the project in the comments section below.

NFIB Endorsement

September 26th, 2011

Today we received some great news at campaign HQ. Randy was just endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) VA SAFE Trust. This sound endorsement from such a long-standing organization in our community is something we are proud to have and glad to be able to share with you. Below are the remarks released in a statement by the NFIB:

“Randy Minchew understands the challenges facing Virginia’s small, family businesses and is the clear choice in House District 10 that includes small towns, rural areas, and suburban areas in Loudoun, Clarke, and Frederick Counties” said Nicole Riley, state director of NFIB/Virginia.

“After studying Randy Minchew’ s 25+ year career in supporting small businesses, we believe he will take a fiscally responsible approach to managing state government and support legislation that helps our small businesses grow and create jobs and puts the Commonwealth back on the pathway to success.”

Remembering Jock Pumphrey

September 2nd, 2011

Below you will find a joint letter to the editor of the Leesburg Today by myself and Joe T. May on the passing of our friend and patriot, Jock Pumphrey.

Dear Editor,

In 1998, NBC journalist Tom Brokaw wrote a book entitled The Greatest Generation. In this book, Brokaw chronicles and celebrates the lives of those great American men and women born in the first few decades of the 20th Century, who steeled themselves through the Great Depression learning the ethics of hard work and perseverance, who fought in and won the Second World War, who contributed mightily toward making American the world’s only superpower respecting human rights and operative moral principles, and who then returned to their families, jobs, and communities to continue their work without bragging about their accomplishments. Brokaw called them “the greatest generation any society has ever produced.”

This past week, we lost a paradigm of The Greatest Generation when John William “Big Jock” Pumphrey, Jr. was called home. Jock served four terms on the Leesburg Town Council during which he played a key leadership role in many important civic undertakings from helping the town establish a permanent water source to protecting the viability of the Leesburg Executive Airport. Jock’s civic service did not end with elective service. He served his community as Chief Engineer for the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department for over a decade and led a host of community betterment groups from the Leesburg Host Lion’s Club, to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, to the Odd Fellows Lodge, to St. James Episcopal Church. He was an incredible man, a worthy friend, father, and husband, an outstanding civic leader, and a true exemplar. A few years ago, the Boy Scouts of Loudoun County honored Jock and named him its “Good Scout of the Year” due to the fact that his life and service makes him a worthy role model for young leaders in our community.

As Seward said of Lincoln, “he now belongs to the ages.” The three of us will miss Jock Pumphrey’s friendship and will cherish our memories of our departed friend who gave so much to his community.

Tomorrow’s Election

August 22nd, 2011

Tomorrow is a pivotal day in our campaign and in the entire state. With the rise of an overbearing federal government and the opportunity of our state’s redistricting, the need for strong common sense conservative leadership is clear.

We need leaders in Richmond who will support the outstanding work of Governor Bob McDonnell, continue to lower taxes for every Virginian, and make our government more efficient and effective. Our campaign was built on those principles and we will continue to push to make our region a better place to live for everyone.

Please consider voting for Randy Minchew today when you enter the ballot box tomorrow.
